1st Citizens’ Workshop CONSTITUTION 2.0
On Sunday February 2nd Impact Hub Athens hosted the 1st Citizens’ Workshop for the design of a New Constitution for Greece, by the citizens, for the citizens.More than 100 people aged 18 to 78 discussed and identified the values as well as the institutions and processes that characterize the State they want to live in.
During four hours, two rounds of discussion took place using the World Café method, which facilitates intimacy and in depth discussion in small groups of five. The process included the ‘harvesting’ and clustering of proposals by participants themselves. Thanks to the creative framework of the methodology, the workshop was carried out in a positive climate motivating the synthesis of ideas. It is worth mentioning that at the exit of the venue, most participants evaluated the experience with a rating above 90% while they gave a 70% grade to the belief that we can bring about change.
The 1st Citizens Workshop CONSTITUTION 2.0 was followed by experts in Participatory Design from the UK, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Israel, who were fascinated by the idea of reinventing Democracy at its cradle.
In the next months, similar Citizens’ Workshops are expected to take place across Greece in order to gather qualitative data that will be used in the quantitative research of the second phase of the CONSTITUTION 2.0 project.
At the same time, a Citizens’ Campaign for Democracy is being launched through the website www.democracyreborn.org which reveals valuable material in Greek on the Democratic Deficit and the possibilities of Democracy in today’s world, as well as the information series ‘Time to open the black box: the Constitution of Greece’.
